Getting around Christchurch

Tram

Christchurch is an easy city to travel around. It has a comprehensive public transport system making getting around Christchurch easy for visitors. As the city is mainly flat it is ideal for walkers.

Parking in the city centre is metered and there are a number of City Council and private car parks. Most accommodation providers have guest car parks but some of the larger hotels charge for this.

There are a number of choices to get to and from the airport. A taxi will cost around $30.00 to the city centre and there are a number of shuttle buses which will drop you at your accommodation. Two buses leave from the airport and go into the city centre for the cost of $7.00, the airport bus A and number 10 Harewood.

Buses run regularly along Christchurch main arterial routes every 15 to 25 minutes. The fare is $2.50 one way. Metro run our bus services and their website supplies maps, route information and timetables.

A free shuttle bus runs around the city centre and has a stop close to the Copthorne. This would be handy for anyone wanting to get to the other side of town for some retail therapy at Ballantynes and the shops on High and Colombo Streets. It also can take you to the central city supermarkets or South City Mall.
