2. Release of Peter Garven' s Volume 6

To all researchers and people looking for South Island genealogy, come and hear Peter Garven talk about his latest resource. And that is Volume 6 of 'The Genealogy of Ngāi Tahu '. This is a unique resource in terms of helping people to learn what joins them together and therefore understand themselves a lot more through researching family history. We start on the 24th of this month at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, so come along and have a listen.
3. Te Reo Māori version of Tī Kōuka Whenua

4. Tukutuku panels
Kātahi hoki anō ka puta mai wētehi o ngā hua o te ringa kaha, ko tēra hoki ko ngā tukutuku. He taonga nui wēnei i ahu mai i te ngakau mahakī, ā, i hanga i ngā kai - rāranga o tērā ropū, o tērā ropū i raro i te mana o Ngā Puna Waihanga. Some very important 'fruits of the hand' have been created especially for the library called tukutuku. These beautiful panels were made by members of the public, library and different community groups under the direction of weavers associated with Ngā Puna Waihanga from the Christchurch area. On the 23rd of this month they will be unveiled for all to appreciate. If you would like to take part in the ceremony just come along and join in.
5. New Māori area in the Central City Library

A new area will open specifically to house the Māori collection which will be known as Ngā Pounamu Māori o Aotearoa.' Our business has now changed from merely having just books or information in conventional formats. We have progressed beyond that type of information service now. It is possible to find material in video tape, photograph and picture form through to magazines and a whole range of other printed material as well electronic sources.
6. South and Chatham Island Minute Books

The library has recently been privileged, only just this month, to take possession of an enormously treasured resource known as the South Island and Chatham Island Minute Books.
This is with a doubt a very valuable resource for all Māori in terms of tribal researchers, descendants and other interested people to find information about their history in one place.
This week, the library will specifically focus on bringing out some of treasures that lay waiting patiently for descendants to grasp firmly once again.
7. Mural out at New Brighton library from Ngā Hau e Whā

This is just a short notice to let everyone know that on the 15th of this month New Brighton Library received a new carving called 'Kahukura'. It is a gift from the students at Ngā Hau e Whā National Marae to the library and now hangs proudly in the children's section. The library would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved, especially the 'future leaders' of our country.
