Robin Hakopa Te Reo Māori Award
At the Te Rōpū Whakahau Hui-a-tau, (Māori Library & Information Management Association conference), held in Kawhia during April, Haneta Pierce, Christchurch City Libraries Kaiwhakahaere Ratonga Māori, was the recipient of the prestigious Robin Hakopa Te Reo Māori Award. The taonga was presented to Haneta by the Tumuaki of Te Rōpū Whakahau, David Jones and last years recipient, Raniera Kingi of Auckland City Libraries.
The Robin Hakopa Award is given annually to a member of Te Rōpū Whakahau in recognition of their contribution and commitment to te reo and tikanga Māori within the library profession. It represents the importance of te reo and tikanga to Māori cultural identity, as well as acknowledging Robins own personal dedication to Māori librarianship.
To be nominated one must show initiative, creativity and dedication to te reo and tikanga Māori within libraries and Te Rōpū Whakahau.
Ngā Kete Wānanga-o-Ōtautahi: Christchurch City Libraries is seen as leading the way for Māori Services in New Zealand libraries and this award was a confirmation of the work and commitment of Haneta, Te Rōpū Ratonga Māori and the organisation as a whole.
