
Inia Te Wiata
- Born 1915 in Otaki.
- In 1947 went to London to study and sing, where he became one of the leading singers (bass baritone) at the Royal Opera House.
- Married Beryl McMillan, also a singer and actor, in 1959.
- Also performed in light opera, musicals and concerts, as well as acting in film.
- Was the first Māori opera singer to earn an international reputation.
- Also talented as a Māori carver.
- Died in 1971. Biography Most happy fella written by his wife, Beryl, in 1976.
- Daughter Rima Te Wiata is also an actress and singer.
