Established in 1997 as the New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards, their name was changed in 2003 to the New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. They are sponsored by New Zealand Post, organised and administrated by Booksellers New Zealand and supported by Creative New Zealand and Book Tokens (NZ) Ltd. Awards are presented to New Zealand books in five categories, plus a “Book of the Year” and a “Children’s Choice”.
Prior to 1997, the awards were known as the AIM Children’s Book Awards.
