Programme Design and Delivery

Our aim is to foster confident creative and connected life long learners. Aligned with the vision of the New Zealand Curriculum document, South Learning Centre provides learning experiences in a technology rich environment.

Students participating in South Learning Centre programmes experience e-learning embedded within traditional and future focused learning areas. Key competencies are developed as students work in collaboration with others across geographical and generational boundaries.

Teachers gain professional learning opportunities as planning sessions with South Learning Centre staff focus on authentic integration of ICT into their curriculum based unit plan whilst delivery involves teachers developing their skills with their students.

South Learning Centre staff are fully trained teachers with experience both in secondary and primary schools. They have community connections which we can utilise within our programmes to ensure greater community connectedness for schools. Constant exposure to new technologies by our staff ensures that we can provide innovative new courses.

Using the Learning Centres

Memorandum of Understanding

Prior to any school visit, the school’s Principal must sign a Memorandum of Understanding. This Memorandum of Understanding establishes the context of learning and services that will be provided to visiting staff and students. Please request an Memorandum of Understanding by emailing learningcentre@ccc.govt.nz.

SLC Co-ordinators

Each school who chooses to bring students to work in the Learning Centre needs to nominate a staff member to work as a co-ordinator between the school’s teaching staff and the Learning Centre.

Their role is to be the main communication channel between South Learning Centre, and your school. This involves:

  • School teaching staff consulting with the co-ordinator at your school to discuss class booking needs based on the school’s priorities. If required, the co-ordinator will have to establish which classes from your school receive priority each term. Bonus bookings for additional classes may be available throughout the term. These are dependent on demand and availability at the Learning Centre
  • Responsibility for distributing information received from the South Learning Centre to the school teaching staff. Newsletters from the South Learning Centre are printed twice each term. New information relating to programmes and procedures will be sent directly to the Co-ordinator
  • Attending any co-ordinator meetings and providing the South Learning Centre with feedback from your school

Booking procedure for schools

  • Request that your Learning Centre co-ordinator book a planning meeting with Learning Centre staff where lesson content, cost and duration will be identified
  • Dates will then be booked into our Learning Centre calendar
  • An estimation of costs will be sent to the School
  • Invoices are to be paid at the end of each term
  • Phone 941 5140 or email: learningcentre@ccc.govt.nz
