Big Storm at New Brighton Pier, 20th July 2001
Extremely high spring tides have been running up the beach at New Brighton this afternoon. The big waves have stopped within 3 metres of the Library building. High tides are forecast for the next few days and we are expecting many visitors to the Pier to watch as the monster waves crash in. Intrepid and excited surfers have made it to the beach ready to go but have been put off by the enormity of the waves. It is definitely a sightseer's day at the beach today.
