Nobel Prizes 2006
Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.
Andrew Z. Fire and Craig C. Mello were awarded jointly "for their discovery of RNA interference - gene silencing by double-stranded RNA".
Awarded to Roger D. Kornberg for his studies of the "molecular basis of eukaryotic transcription".
Awarded to Edmund S. Phelps for his analysis of "intertemporal tradeoffs in macroeconomic policy".
Orhan Pamuk from Turkey "who in the quest for the melancholic soul of his native city has discovered new symbols for the clash and interlacing of cultures". Search for his works on the library catalogue.
Jointly awared to Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank for their efforts to create economic and social development from below
Awarded to John C. Mather and George F. Smoot for their discovery of "the blackbody form and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation".
