Huntsbury Spur was one of the main routes taken by the Rāpaki Māori when crossing between the Port Hills and the plains.

A Māori campsite and lookout post were located towards the bottom of present day Huntsbury Avenue and property owners in this area have found large quantities of sea shells in the soil.
