"The staff room in the new house at the Girls Training Centre, Burwood. The house, which is named after the Minister of Health (Miss Mabel Howard), was officially opened by Miss Howard on Saturday. It will accommodate girls who are spending their final term at the centre." A home for girls with criminal convictions, it was originally (from 1900) called the Te Oranga Home and later became the Kingslea Resource Centre. Mabel Bowden Howard (1894-1972) was appointed to the Labour Cabinet in May 1947
