Ilam House, Riccarton
[ca. 1921]

Built in 1910 to replace an earlier home destroyed by fire, this house was designed by J.S. Guthrie. After the owner, Patrick Campbell, died in 1917, Ilam was bought by Edgar Stead (1877-1949), a noted amateur naturalist who created the well-known azalea and rhododendron gardens. On his death Canterbury University bought the property and it eventually became their staff club
