Janet Frame, New Zealand’s most distinguished writer, died in Dunedin of leukemia on 29 January 2004. She was 79.
In 2003, along with Michael King and Hone Tuwhare, she was honoured as one of the giant kauri
of New Zealand literature in the inaugural Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement.
