25 June 2007

Christchurch Central Library today (25 June) introduces a new automated computer booking system for customers to pay for printing and photocopying, book computers and pay for internet use.

Pharos will ensure customers have fairer and more equitable access to computers through the Christchurch City Libraries network, providing them with the flexibility to schedule computer bookings to suit their requirements, says Council Libraries and Information Manager Carolyn Robertson.

“Customers will need to take a few minutes on their next visit to the library to set-up a Pharos account at a customer service desk. This will allow staff to transfer any money loaded on their library membership or e-service cards to their Pharos account.”

Mrs Robertson says once customers have set-up their account they can access printing, photocopying or book computers up to eight days in advance by entering their username and PIN into a Pharos Station.

“Pharos provides us with a more simplified system that is convenient and easier for customers to use to manage payment for printing and photocopying, and book computers.”

Pharos will be rolled out through 17 of the Christchurch City Libraries during the next four months. It will be available at Upper Riccarton from 10 July, Halswell 12 July, South Christchurch 17 July, Hornby 19 July, Fendalton 24 July, Papanui 26 July, Bishopdale 7 August, New Brighton 14 August, Shirley 21 August, Linwood 23 August, Redwood 24 August, Akaroa 28 August, Lyttelton 4 September, and Sumner 6 September. Spreydon Library will be provided with the service later this year once the refurbishment is complete.
