The doors to the new-look Linwood Library open for business at 9am tomorrow (7 June) after a three-week refurbishment the first since the facility opened in 1993.
The 14-year-old library had been looking tired and shabby, says Christchurch City Libraries Manager Carolyn Robertson.
“Much of the work was required for health and safety reasons, such as replacement of the threadbare carpet and refurbishment of furniture.”
Linwood Library now has a fresh, Pacific-inspired décor which Mrs Robertson says has been inspired by the sea, the colours predominantly being blues, greens and parchment.
“Linwood Library is a busy community library with an average monthly foot count of 15,000. It has a sense strong of community; the customer base being drawn from the local Linwood community and Christchurch’s seaside hill suburbs.
“The newly refurbished library provides customers and staff with a more pleasant environment in which to enjoy the range of services and facilities provided by Christchurch City Libraries. I am sure everyone is going to love the fresh new décor and better layout of services.”
Mrs Robertson acknowledged there had been some inconvenience for customers during the three-week refurbishment and thanked everyone for their patience while the work was completed.
