Changes at the Central Library
In response to customer feedback and in the continual process of improving our services, we are about to commence some changes to the way we deliver our services and to our layout. The following is the first phase of our move.
- A Business Centre will be established on the second floor in the Magazine area. The Business Centre will provide a focussed service with collections and resources relating to business being located in one place. This will include directories, telephone books, standards, statistics, and books on management and career information.
- The ground floor is now home to the Popular Centre. Lending magazines, including the latest not for loan copies are now conveniently located in this area, along with adult fiction, literature, biographies, large print and talking books. The Popular Centre will focus on customer's recreational needs, with up-to-date displays and information about what's on in Christchurch.
- The first floor will be the location of the info-centre which will continue to focus on providing a quality information service. This area now includes the 400s (languages) and the adult literacy ESOL section. Consumer information is also in this location, as well as latest reports from Consumer and Choice, plus motor cycle and road car tests.
- A new team, the Computing Resource Centre will also be located on the first floor at the eastend desk (the music area). This is a temporary location until some building changes are made, and eventually this will move to the 2nd floor with a dedicated training area for customers. Helping customers with new technology will be the main focus of their service.
- Reference only magazines are still located on the second floor behind the lift, however they will move to the first floor in the future.
We hope that you, our customers will find that the focus and specialised services of the new centres will make the library easier to use.
Please continue to provide us with your feedback
Thank you
