Exciting new renovations are commencing at Central Library!
To reflect changes in the way we deliver our services, to open up the building and make our collections more accessible, some renovations will be taking place at the Central Library. While we apologise for any inconvenience, we also hope you will share our excitement and pleasure at what promises to be a vibrant and exciting environment.
Updates
April 12 2002
The latest copy reference magazines on the first floor have been moved from the west wall and arranged near the public lift on the first floor.
January 2002
During the week of 28th January - 3rd February there will be some building work in the Microfilm and Microfiche area and the Business and Computing areas of the Central Library.
This will involve some noise and temporary reduction of space.
We apologise for any disturbance and inconvenience during this time.
December 2001
Thank you for all your support during the first part of the refurbishment of the Central Library. The many compliments have been very appreciated.
We are about to move into the second phase of the refurbishment. This will impact on the second floor and will include:
- Reducing the stack areas to create more public space.
- Extending the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre, including the Māori Collection.
- Creating defined spaces for the Computing Resource and Business teams.
To enable the above to happen the staff workrooms on the second floor are all moving up to the third floor. And to create the space on the third floor some of the support services have moved off-site.
Work is scheduled to begin this month and to be completed by the end of February 2002. We are making every effort to maintain all services during this period, and especially the Family History area which is particularly busy during the Christmas - January period. However some minor disruption to services may occur. We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers and hope that you will enjoy the changes when they are completed.
