Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week at Christchurch City Libraries
E ngā mana e ngā reo e ngā ma ta waka o ngā hau e wha e hapai nei ngā taonga tuku iho Greetings to the esteemed languages, the many waka from the four winds, |
Choosing to make te reo Māori more visible in our libraries was a simple decision to make. Te reo Māori is a taonga that gives our country its distinct and unique cultural identity. Aotearoa (New Zealand) is the only place in the world where Māori is spoken widely, and this is why it deserves our protection and nourishment. For Māori to thrive as a language of everyday use, we must encourage its use in our homes and communities as much as possible.
At Christchurch City Libraries/Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi we have been supporting the kaupapa of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori over the past nine years in many ways. We have endeavoured to promote the week as a time for learning and using te reo Māori.
Kia kaua koe e ngāro taku reo rangatira
May you never be lost my noble language
