Some interesting Reading Crusade facts

• The Reading Crusade was held 23 February - 15 April 2005
• Over 13,300 entries were received
• Over 11,000 children years 1-8 took part
• Just under 107,000 books were read as a result
• Hurunui College (Year 1-8) was the school with the highest participation - 83% of students took part
• McKenzie Residential School was the Christchurch School with the highest participation - 72.4%
• 132 Christchurch Schools participated
• Over 270 schools took part from Nelson to Waimate including West Coast and Banks Peninsula
• Great response from out of town schools - 145 participated
• The competition was most popular with Year 4 students
• Entrants - 54% were female and 46% were male
