South Island Children's Librarians' Conference 2008

David Hill

We are delighted that prolific award-winning New Zealand author and speaker David Hill has agreed to both chair and participate in the panel discussion on rollicking reads for boisterous boys. David is a highly experienced writer, of both non-fiction and fiction, for young people and adults.Several of his books demonstrate that the New Zealand adventure/action story is alive and kicking, whether based on a historical event, such as in No Safe Harbour and Journey to Tangiwai, or based on current day dilemmas, such as in the recent Aim High, which focuses on the rivalry between a keen archer and rifle-loving boy who mocks him. Relationships and issues for young people are sensitively explored in his works. He has won the Esther Glen Award twice (1998 Fat, Four-eyed and Useless, 2003 Right Where it Hurts) and been short-listed for the New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children and Young Adults on numerous occasions.
