Tin Tin reading at New Brighton Library

20 July 2011

cover

A new generation of children, aged four to 13 years, will experience the adventures of Tin Tin, the famous children’s book character, with a special Belgium National Day reading at New Brighton Library, 10am to 11am, Thursday 21 July, 2011.

Follow Tin Tin and his friends as they search for the thief responsible for stealing Bianca Castafiore’s emerald with this fun reading of the classic story The Castafiore Emerald.

In the lead up to the December release of the film The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Christchurch City Libraries will celebrate Tin Tin books and Belgian culture.

Throughout October, Christchurch City Libraries will host reading corners featuring Tin Tin and Belgian culture, readings of Tin Tin stories by local authors and Belgian community members, a children’s colouring competition and screenings of animated Tin Tin movies.

The Christchurch Tin Tin Project and Belgian culture month will bring Tin Tin to a new generation of children,” explains Christchurch City Council Marketing Manager, Richard Stokes.

The Belgian Embassy together with the Belgian Honorary Consul approached the Council to promote Belgian culture awareness and we’re excited to bring a taste of Belgian culture to Christchurch.

Our city is made up of many diverse ethnicities, including a strong Belgian community. Belgian culture month in October gives us the opportunity to get to know our Belgian neighbours that little bit better.

This Thursday’s reading at New Brighton Library is a great introduction to Tin Tin and will be a good teaser for what’s to come in October.

Tin Tin was created by the famous Belgian artist Georges Rémi, who wrote under the pen name of Hergé.

The Tin Tin reading of The Castafiore Emerald will take place at New Brighton Library, Pier Building, 213 Marine Parade, New Brighton, on Thursday 21 July, 10am – 11am. This event is also part of the Council’s annual children’s festival, TV2KidsFest and is free to all. For more information, visit www.kidsfest.co.nz
