Papanui Library to open on Sundays

18 November 2011

Beginning on Sunday 20 November, Papanui Library will be opening its doors to customers seven days a week to meet the growing demand for library services in Christchurch’s northeast.

Christchurch City Libraries’ decision to open Papanui Library on Sundays from 10am–4pm is a response to the closure of the Bishopdale Library earlier this month, which has seen an increase in visitors to nearby libraries.

Having Papanui Library available for an extra day a week is great news for the community, says Christchurch City Council Libraries and Information Unit Manager Carolyn Robertson. We’ve made some improvements in recent months – these include changes to technology and the way we work, and our customers now have more opportunity to pop in and try out the new Papanui.

While it’s unfortunate that Bishopdale Library has been closed, Christchurch City Libraries remains committed to providing easy access to their services to as many residents as possible. Our staff have done a superb job throughout a difficult and busy year.

Bishopdale Library will remain closed until further notice. The nearby Fendalton and Redwood libraries remain open, and the Mobile Library will visit Bishopdale regularly on Wednesdays.
