Feast for booklovers — Christchurch City Libraries’ annual book sale

Booklovers around the city are looking forward to a real feast as Christchurch City Libraries prepares for their annual book sale, which will see a huge range of books with over 60,000 titles for sale at bargain prices.

The sale will be held at the Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre on Friday 22 — Saturday 23 March and includes adult, young adult, children’s fiction and non-fiction.

Libraries and Information Unit Manager Carolyn Robertson says, The event is extremely popular with the Christchurch community — last year we sold all our books by midday on Saturday. People were queuing up from 7am. We have some particularly sought after non-fiction books.

This year’s sale will be especially large with a greater range than usual. Now that we have more libraries open, there has been more time to look at our collections, identify which titles have been replaced with newer material, and which titles no longer meet the changing needs of our customers. Our sale provides valuable revenue for the library. It is a great opportunity to pick up your favourite books, or a couple of reference books at an affordable price.

Children are particularly keen customers of the event with children’s books on sale for $1. Most fiction and non-fiction books are sold for $3, with some higher quality non-fiction books selling for up $20.
