Some of the Maori population
Some of the Maori population
[1900]
"The lady on the left, Susan, is the grandmother of some of the children in front, and is a person of great consideration. She is remarkably clever at the Maori basket-making. The second figure from the right in the same row is her sister from Kaiapoi, Rebecca. The man next to her recently volunteered for South Africa, but though a good horseman was unsuccessful." In the middle row on the left is Tuatini Ruru; wearing the neck kerchief in the same row is Repeka Horomona (information supplied by a descendant)
