Councillor William Eagle (1844-1926)

William Eagle came to Lyttelton on the ship Waipa in 1876 and settled in Kaiapoi. In 1899 he commenced business as a builder and contractor and later served for several terms as a member of the Kaiapoi Borough Council. He also helped with the tree planting done by the borough in the early days, the belt of poplar trees along Sidey Quay being planted by him (See The Press, 29 Sept. 1926, p. 10)
