The original Holy Trinity Church, Avonside
The original Holy Trinity Church, Avonside
[ca. 1857]
This was built near the place on the Avon River at which boats discharged their cargoes. The architect was Charles Edward Fooks (1829-1907). It was consecrated on 24 February 1857, the first consecrated church in Canterbury. As parts of the church fell into disrepair, additions were made. Eventually the whole of the original portion was demolished. The architect of its replacement was Benjamin Woolfield Mountfort (1825-1898)
