Terminus Hotel, also known as the Otira Hotel, Otira
[ca. 1900]
This building was built in the 1890s and replaced the original hotel which had been washed away by the Otira River in the 1880s. The original road had been in the riverbed and a new road was made on the hillside above the hotel. At the time this photograph was taken the licensee was James O?Malley, an ex-policeman. He had earlier been the proprietor of the Bealey Hotel. See The weekly press, 2 Aug. 1923, p. 30
