Pukaki Hotel
Pukaki Hotel
[1955]
This wooden hotel, owned by the Tourist Hotel Corporation from 1963, was a stopping place for many years for thousands of motorists en route to the Hermitage and further south. The licence, plus the hotel building itself, was transferred to Twizel in 1970 to meet the needs of that rapidly growing town. The site of the hotel disappeared under water when the new dam was built slightly downstream from the lake. See The Press, 27 August 1963, p. 16 and 30 June 1970, p. 24.
