Home of Dr Henry Horsford Prins (1835?-1896), 158 Manchester Street, Christchurch
[ca. 1890]
Dr Prins came to New Zealand in 1857. Some years later he was appointed House Surgeon to the Christchurch Hospital and for six years was in sole charge of the institution. He later went into general practice. His home, 'a fine property', was on a large block of land in Manchester Street. It was demolished in 1900 so that the Canterbury A & P hall could be erected. For much of the 20th century the Christchurch City Council Chambers was on the site. See By-ways of history & medicine (with special reference to Canterbury, New Zealand) / David Gordon Macmillan
