The D.I.C. (Drapery Importing Company) family warehouse
The D.I.C. (Drapery Importing Company) family warehouse
[189-]
Originally formed in Dunedin by Mr B. Hallenstein in 1884, the company later expanded to Christchurch and Wellington. "Here is a view of the Cashel Street front of the Christchurch premises, which run in a long vista, flanked on each side by active, full-stocked departments, right through to Lichfield Street ... There is a warehouse style of street front. This plan relieves the management from the exposure and consequent deterioration of saleable goods by constant handling and from dust and weather. "
