Mary Ursula Bethell (1874-1945) : poet and social worker.

Ursula Bethell published four volumes of poetry, three of them under the pseudonym Evelyn Hayes. She was also largely responsible for the establishment of the Boys Gordon Hall in Christchurch. She lived at Rise Cottage, 10 Westenra Terrace, Cashmere, and at 47 Webb Street, St Albans. She gave this house to the Anglican church as accommodation for St Faith's House of Sacred Learning, a deaconess training institute. See The Press, 17 Jan. 1945, p. 6.
