The opening of the St. Helen's State Maternity Home for Christchurch by the Hon. George Fowlds (1860-1930), Minister of Public Health

"In the St Helen's Home, which is situated in Durham Street, Sydenham, accommodation is available for sixteen patients at one time .... The whole of the upstairs is to be devoted to the patients, a large nursery, partially enclosed balcony for convalescents, bathroom, lavatories, and operating room being also provided on the same floor .... The institution is in charge of Miss Inglis as matron and Miss McKenzie as sub-matron, both of whom were trained in the Glasgow Maternity Hospital and have had extensive experience."
