545 Woodham, a two-storey house of 10 rooms on Woodham Road, Avonside. built by John Gwalter Palairet (1798-1878), a stamp clerk. The land had been formerly owned by Thomas Hichens (1795-1868). George Hawkes Whitcombe (1854-1917), managing director of Whitcombe & Tombs Ltd, booksellers, was the owner at the time this photograph was taken. The house was demolished in 1941. It had been vandalised after the surrounding land became Woodham Park.
