Laying of the foundation stone of St Barnabas Church, Fendalton, Christchurch

The ceremony, on 22 Mar. 1925, was performed by Archbishop Julius and over 800 people attended. The church was a memorial to those who died in the Great War 1914-1918 and was designed by architect Cecil Wood. Planning had been underway for a stone church to replace the original wooden building since 1884. The nave of the original wooden church stood in front of the tower of the present church
