St Patrick's Church, Akaroa, Banks Peninsula

Catholic priest Father Chataigner was responsible for much of the design and construction of this church, most of it completed in 1865. John Cullen built the church according to plans by Benjamin Mountfort (1825-1898) and Maxwell Bury. It was built of totara hewn from the local forest and matai was used for the principals and framing. The front porch was added in 1886 and a bell tower in 1893
