Women's Land Army plots, Abberley Park, St Albans
[1942]
Vegetable crops were grown at the experimental section farmed at Abberley Park by members of the Women's Voluntary Land Army during World War Two (1939-1945). A splendid onion crop is shown being harvested. In 1938, after the death of its then owner, John Hobbs Kirk, 4 1/2 acres of the original fifty acres of Abberley, named after Abberley in Worcestershire, England, had been given to the Christchurch City Council for use as a park
