Alfred Buxton (1872-1950) ran a nursery here from 1902 to 1925. Initially known as Premier Nursery, it was later called the Opawa Nursery. It was situated on nearly nine acres of land to the east of the Heathcote River and to the north and south of what is now known as Buxton Terrace
