Spencer Vincent opened his first retail chemist shop and dispensing establishment at 98 Colombo Street, Sydenham. His second shop, this one in High Street, was fairly spacious to accommodate a large number of glass cases for extensive stock. Note the advertisements on the wall: Benjamin Gum Extract, at the time the standard remedy for throat and chest maladies, and Trilby Teething Powders and Corn Cure. Homeopathic medicines are displayed on the counter
