Caption: Paparua County ploughing match, held at Templeton, Canterbury, on Thursday last: some snapshots. It is over thirty years ago since a ploughing match was held in the Templeton district, the first gathering taking place on the late Mr J. Madison’s paddock, about half a mile or so from where the match was held on Thursday, the paddock for which was lent by Mr George Bailey. The organisers were lucky, considering the uncertainty of the weather lately, in having a fine day for the match, which was marred by the very strong northerly gale that rendered conditions in the morning rather unpleasant for the spectators, though the afternoon was all that could be desired. Five classes had been provided for, and there was a really excellent turnout, no fewer than twenty-nine teams entering, of which twenty-eight were on the ground. There was a good attendance of the public present, and about the middle of the afternoon it was estimated that quite nine hundred people were on the ground. (1) F.
