Caption: No. 8 Tunnel and block making shed, Blakiston.
Description: Construction on the Midland Railway Line. The first of the smaller bridges beyond Staircase is at Blakiston's, its length being 38 feet. At Blakiston's was situated a manufactory of the concrete blocks used in lining the tunnels. The gravel was sluiced from the hillside in the vicinity and carried along a race. At the delivery end, the large gravel was separated from the smaller gravel. As at October 1904, concrete foundations had been finished for the bridge.
