The traffic bridge over the Waimakariri at Mount White.
Caption: The traffic bridge over the Waimakariri at Mount White. The photograph shows the river in flood. The bridge is being raised 6ft 6 in so that the Midland railway train service may not be interfered with under circumstances of exceptional floods.
Description: The road bridge over the Waimakariri River at Mount White was built possibly by 1880, certainly by 1885. Whilst the bridge was strongly built it has required significant work over the years, both with age, floods and increasing demands playing a part.
