Caption: Another level railway crossing fatality: two men killed at Burnham, Canterbury. The scene of the fatal accident at Burnham railway crossing on the night of December 13, when a motor-cyclist, Duncan Stewart, and a side-chair passenger, Cyril Edward Henry Reeves, were killed in a collision with the express train from Dunedin to Christchurch. Stewart intended to call at the house beyond the line, and the motor-cycle in the picture is at the spot where he cut off his engine, at which moment the locomotive was passing the house.
