The house built by George Gould (1823-1889) in Christchurch
[1900]
The frame was put together by George Gould himself in Auckland and, with materials for completion, was brought to Lyttelton in a schooner. From there it was taken to Sumner and up the Avon River as at that time the Heathcote River was supposed not to be navigable. It was landed at the Bricks wharf owned by Joseph Longden. The house was erected in Armagh Street in Feb. 1851, about 50 yards east of Colombo Street and stood there for many years before being removed to Park Street, Addington
