This branch of the "Friendly " organisation was formed in 1880. The Canterbury Oddfellowship was established in 1842. It was a charitable society comprising officers and members whose main aim was to promote self-help, especially in the area of old age pensions, where the Oddfellows had drafted their own scheme -- The Press, 21.
