City improvements, Christchurch : Warner's Commercial Hotel, Cathedral Square.
[1900]
The original Warner's Hotel burnt down in 1900. Perceval Arthur Herman (1866-1935) took up the lease in 1901 and organised architect Joseph Clarkson Maddison (1850-1923) to draw up plans for a replacement. This improved hotel would have fire escapes, an in-house telephone system and electric reading lamps in the bedrooms.
