John George Ruddenklau (1829-1891)

Born in Germany, Ruddenklau emigrated to New Zealand from London in 1857. He established a business in the Triangle Centre as a baker and confectioner and later built and ran the City Hotel. He also built the first grain stores at Addington and worked as a miller and corn merchant. He was a Christchurch city councillor 1866, 1873-1877 and mayor 1882-1883.
