Norman Doidge
Norman Doidge is one of sixty authors who attended The Press Christchurch Writers Festival from 4 to 7 September 2008.
Psychiatrist and researcher Norman Doidge's book The brain that changes itself became a surprise hit and is available in the library. Doidge travelled around the United States to meet the brilliant scientists championing neuroplasticity, and the people whose lives they’ve transformed — people whose mental limitations or brain damage were previously seen as unalterable, and whose conditions had long been dismissed as hopeless.
You don't have to be a brain surgeon to read this book or listen to Dr Doidge — just someone with a curious mind. He has a fluent and unassuming style, and is able to explain difficult concepts without talking down to his readers or listeners.
