Sir Howard Morrison 1935 -2009
Entertainer Sir Howard Morrison has died aged 74, news sites have reported.
Prime Minister John Key said from New York that Sir Howard Morrison had appeal that "spanned every age group".
Sir Howard's television and concert performances were a constant part of New Zealand's entertainment scene for five decades, beginning with The Clive Trio. Later The Howard Morrison Quartet topped the New Zealand charts with My old man's an All Black, and made live television appearances as early as 1961.
Sir Howard continued to perform as a solo artist after the group disbanded in 1964 and also appeared on the big screen. Numerous TV appearances kept him at the forefront of popular culture - with Ray Woolf he made several ads for Bic, and he also appeared on the Billy T James Show.
In 2008 he recorded Once in a lifetime with Dame Malvina Major, John Rowles and Tiki Taane. Released in August 2009, it reached number 1 in mid-September.
