Additions to the Central Police Station, Hereford Street, Christchurch : the alterations in progress.
[1906]
The original building was a free-standing, two-storey, stone building, built in 1873. Additions were built in 1906 to house the extra police needed because of Christchurch's growing population and also the New Zealand International Exhibition, 1906-1907. This building was demolished in stages between 1968 and 1974 and a new building, on the corner of Hereford Street and Cambridge Terrace (formerly the YMCA site), was officially opened on 8 Dec. 1973.
