Capt. White lived with a Maori woman, Piraurau, and in 1846, while on a visit to the South Island, the Catholic Bishop Pompallier officiated at the couple's wedding. From left are: George White, William Innes, Piraurau, Sarah White who married William Innes, Thomas White and Almirah White. Legend has it that this photograph was taken the day of William and Sarah's betrothal
