The opening of the new hall at Tuahiwi, North Canterbury

The hall was opened during a week-long hui held to discuss grievances over land claims. It was declared open by the Hon. J.G. Coates, Native Minister (1878-1943) who received deputations presenting grievances during his visit. Archbishop Churchill Julius (1847-1938) is shown speaking. Both men commented in their speeches that they would have liked to have seen traditional Maori architecture used
